Turnitin (accessed at https://submit.ac.uk) is widely known as ‘the plagiarism detection service’. While it is true that Turnitin does detect plagiarism, it offers a great deal more to the staff and students at Royal Holloway, and almost every other UK H.E. institution, many schools, and a number of examination bodies.
The uptake and appropriate use of Turnitin is administered, promoted and developed at Royal Holloway by Martin King and the e-learning team. Departmental Administration staff are trained and supported in the setting up of courses, the creation of assignments and associated inboxes, as well as the distribution of information to students and the day to day running of the service. The e-learning team offers Moodle-based resources for both staff and students using Turnitin. Academic staff are trained on request, in their use and understanding of Turnitin, the Originality Reports, and online marking and feedback. We also maintain a social bookshelf with links to web-based Turnitin resources, articles and manuals.
