MPhil/PhD Examinations

The Examinations and Research Degrees Office at Royal Holloway has now taken over the administration of the MPhil/PhD exams of our students from Senate House, University of London.

Important time restrictions

  • The MPhil/PhD Entry form should be sent to the Exams and Research Degrees Office at least 2 months before you intend submitting your thesis.  Once you have handed in your Entry Form, it is valid for 18 months.

  • The period of study for programmes leading to the award of MPhil or PhD must not be less than two calendar years of full-time study, or four years in part-time study.  Therefore, you may not submit your thesis before this time.

  • For MPhil/PhD students who enrolled on or after September 2006, there are strict deadlines for thesis submission i.e. it is to be submitted within:
PhD
Full-time 4 years (3 years + 1 writing up year)
Part-time 7 years (6 years + 1 writing up year)

MPhil
Full-time 3 years (2 years + 1 writing up year)
Part-time 5 years (4 years + 1 writing up year)
