The course explores the work of British feminist playwrights during the past twenty-five years : Caryl Churchill, Sarah Daniels, Pam Gems, Louise Page, Timberlake Wertenbaker, et al.

The course was not structured around authors or chronology, but around recurring issues and ideas in feminist thought that have been reflected on stage--e.g., family relationships, reproduction, mothering, sexuality, rewriting myth/history. Two or three plays are studied each week, chosen to allow either a synchronic or a diachronic approach to the particular issue.
