In Autumn 2009 we set up our first International Student Team with a mandate to engage more of our international student population with community volunteering (see below for quotes from this team). This has gone from strength to strength with the emergence of a new community project called International Kitchen due to launch Autumn 2010.

“I joined volunteering at Royal Holloway because I thought it might be good experience, and my thoughts were right! I met some very friendly new people and was involved in activities outside of the everyday. In my opinion international students can get out a lot from ‘getting involved’.”
Domagoj Fizulic, Croatia

“I personally believe that volunteering while you’re at university is one of the best things you can do! You get so much out of it and the benefits include; broadens your horizons, enables you to build long-term friendships and tremendously improves employment prospects. As an international student I really appreciate the opportunity provided by voluntary work to use English in so many different ways and to meet local people living in the area. ”
Maciek Szymanski, Poland

"During my time at Royal Holloway Community Action I was able to help the local community, but also develop my communication and teaching skills further. It feels good to help others.”
Chris Berger, Germany

“I participated in Community Action International Student Team in RHUL to make the best of my overseas education and to communicate with people from various cultural and educational backgrounds. The team is an international student volunteering group with an active role in local charitable activities and volunteering projects. It trained me in extra communication skillswith which the lectures could not provide. It is my honor to be involved into this fantastic group.”
Fred Li Rongbin, China
