When I started at Royal Holloway six months ago one thing was clear – enormous aspiration and passion for the environment exists across the entire University.

Reducing our environmental footprint and increasing our positive impact is the right thing to do, and we’re already demonstrating this by teaching and researching environmental sustainability across all Schools; putting it at the heart of new developments across our campuses; considering it when choosing what food and drink we serve; and empowering all students and staff to make a growing number of ethical choices.

Another thing that struck me was that we don’t always share the great work we’re doing. I’m very pleased to share with you our new Environmental Sustainability webpages, which aim to boost our visibility publicly and provide a place to post information, updates, and news on Royal Holloway’s response to the climate and biodiversity crises. We’ve also recently developed an Environmental Sustainability Hub on the student intranet where you can find resources and ways to get involved.

I hope that increasing our online presence will help you be part of our sustainability journey, make us more publicly accountable, and enhance our external credibility. We are planning to keep adding content to these pages over time, including our new mid-year and annual emissions, waste and water reports, so please let me know if there is something you’d like to see included.

I hope you enjoy scrolling through. I look forward to reporting back as we make progress.
