Facilities and academic support for postgraduate students

Royal Holloway provides a supportive environment in which to undertake exciting, innovative and challenging study .

Spaces for postgraduate students

Bedford Library study group

We provide dedicated spaces for you as a postgraduate student to study and meet with fellow students. This includes 24-hour postgraduate computer labs with scanning and printing facilities.

You'll also have access to senior common rooms complete with comfortable seating and kitchen equipment - great if you need somewhere to relax between lectures and you live off-campus.

Academic skills support

We also offer a range of academic skills support, with every student having access to an interactive e-learning module for self-directed study. 

Through this course, you can practise writing, critical thinking, reading and note-taking. You'll also learn about  referencing helping you avoid plagiarism. One-to-one support is also available to students with additional learning needs.

Every department runs its own subject-specific training sessions to complement your studies as well as discipline-specific training.

You can also take part in writing consultations and workshops throughout the academic year.

Personal tutors

As a postgraduate student, you’ll be assigned a personal tutor. They  will be available to discuss and advise on your academic and personal progress on a one-to-one basis.

English language support

If English is your second language, Royal Holloway International |offers an assortment of English language courses to help you become a confident learner of English for academic purposes.

For example, in-sessional English language courses |and one-to-one writing workshops cover essay-writing skills, how to deliver an effective presentation and discussion skills to aid your postgraduate studies.

Counselling service

The Student Counselling Service  |runs weekly workshops on subjects such as exam stress, presentation skills, procrastination and assertiveness.

 The service can also organise extra coaching sessions on request.
