The Royal Holloway Symphony Orchestra

Enjoy the sound of the Royal Holloway Symphony Orchestra as they perform music by Mozart, Mahler and Nicolai at St. John's, Smith Square, London on Sunday 26 March.

Robert Max, international cellist and chamber musician, will be conducting the concert with Mark van de Wiel playing the clarinet. Robert Max has worked as a conductor with the likes of the Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra, the Arad Philharmonic Orchestra and soloists James Kirby, Sergei Dukachev, Ralph Kirschbaum and Erich Gruenberg. He has been the cellist for the Barbican Piano Trio for fourteen years performing over four continents in concert, for European and US radio and television as well as the BBC World Service and BBC Radio 3.

Mark van de Wiel is one of Britain's leading, and most versatile, clarinettists. As principal clarinettist of the London Sinfonietta and the Philharmonia Orchestra, and as a well-known soloist and chamber musician, he has performed at major venues all over the world.

The evening's music will include Nicolai's Overture from The Merry Wives of Windsor, Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A and Mahler's Symphony No. 1 in D.

The fine acoustics of St. John's, Smith Square make it an ideal venue for a concert. A masterpiece of English Baroque architecture, St. John's was restored to its former splendor in 1969 after being gutted during World War II.

The concert takes place at 7.30pm. Tickets are £18, £12, £8, (£6 concessions) from the Box Office, St. John's, Smith Square, London, SW1P 3HA (please enclose SAE) or telephone 020 7222 1061 or visit www.sjss.org.uk. The Footstool restaurant gallery in the Crypt is open from 5.30pm for buffet and licensed refreshments, please telephone 020 7222 2779.
