Study abroad and exchanges (incoming)

Royal Holloway International is responsible for enabling international students to spend up to a year at Royal Holloway and receive academic credit at their home university through one of the following four schemes:

  • Study Abroad: admits students through arrangement with partner institutions or through individual application to Royal Holloway. Tuition fees may be charged

  • Study Abroad with Academic English: open to students who wish to spend a year in the UK improving their English, learning about British culture and taking part in first year undergraduate courses

  • Erasmus exchange: open to undergraduate students from a number of specific EU institutions with which Royal Holloway has an agreement

  • International Exchange: open to students from a number of specific institutions outside the EU with which Royal Holloway has an agreement

Periods of study

For students studying on the Study Abroad, Erasmus Exchange and International Exchange schemes, there are three periods of study to choose from:

Study option Period of study (2010/11)
1. Whole academic year 20 September 2010 to 10 June 2011
2. Autumn Semester 20 September to 10 December 2010
3. Spring & Summer Semester 10 January to 10 June 2011

Note that the Summer period (April –June) for Study Options 1 to 3 is primarily a revision and examination period. Some departments run workshops and revision classes, but new learning material is not usually presented during this period.

The Study Abroad with Academic English is offered for the following study periods:

9 months April-December
1 year April-March

There are up to 3 or 4 week vacations at Christmas (December/January) and Easter (March/April).
